Synopsis

A chemical engineer, has over forty years experience as a General Manager; Project Manager & Consultant as well as a range of Operational and Technical roles in the following fields:
 

• Energy Industries (particularly in Marine Renewable energy – Wave & Tidal stream energies and ocean thermal energy Conversion )

Background

A chemical engineer by training, John spent nearly 20 years in the Gas Industry (pre- Privatisation) in gas manufacture; pipeline control and maintenance; gas supply; development of gas storage facilities. In the 1980’s he was Project Manager of the £700 million Rough Field Storage Project and the Deputy General Manager of Offshore Production.

He spent a period in the National Health Service as a Unit General Manager of Community based Services providing for a population of 250,000 on the outskirts of London. The Unit consisted of 900 people with an annual budget in excess of £12 million.
John has over ten years in the Engineering and Construction Contracting Industry with two Major contractors. He was Director of Engineering and IT for several years and served as a Board Director for part of that time. During this period he worked on a number of Projects either responsible for Conceptual Design or for Value Optimisation through cost reduction techniques, whilst ensuring quality and performance.
 

John has chaired the Marine Foresight Panel’s Task Force on “Energies from the Sea” over the last two years. Following this he is increasingly involved in offshore renewable energy as well as some onshore renewables. He operates as an Independent Consultant in the Energy Industries, particularly marine-based energy forms of all types and in Project/General Management for various organisations.
